We are thrilled to share a remarkable leadership opportunity at one of the great K-12 independent schools in the United States. The Dalton School in Manhattan is seeking a new High School Director to start in July 2026.
Founded in 1919, The Dalton School today is as an international model of progressive education and serves an extraordinarily diverse and talented student body. Current enrollment is around 1,330 students in grades K-12, with ~460 students in grades 9-12. At Dalton, “The joy of learning is palpable and abundant,” in the words of Head of School José De Jesús.
The High School program at Dalton, led by its remarkable faculty, encourages curiosity, inquiry, experimentation, research, and analysis–preparing students to navigate and contribute meaningfully to an increasingly complex, technological, and interconnected world. During these years, students ask not just what they are learning, but why it matters and how it connects to the world they aspire to shape. A purposeful culture defined by Dalton's core values is vividly present.
The High School Director reports directly to Head of School José De Jesús, who has led the school since the summer of 2022. The Director will be a first-rate high school educator and exceptional administrator. The division requires a leader who is undaunted by complexity; brings a deft relational sensibility and collaborative spirit; and is energized by the robust exchange of ideas that characterizes the Dalton experience.
The position starts on July 1, 2026, and the application deadline is January 5, 2026. After carefully reviewing the position statement, candidates are encouraged to apply via the RG175 website, with a letter of interest, resume, and a leadership or educational philosophy statement.
A full Position Statement will be posted by early November. Please see the RG175 website at that time for full details on the position.
