The Director of Curriculum & Instruction is a visionary and strategic academic leader responsible for the alignment, coherence, and innovation of curriculum and instruction across grades 6–12. This position ensures the highest standards of teaching and learning by supporting faculty in curriculum development, instructional practices, and professional growth. In addition, the Director will lead the school’s reaccreditation processes and uphold academic excellence aligned with the school’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Leadership
● Provide strategic oversight and masterful knowledge of curriculum development, mapping, and alignment across all departments and grade levels.
● Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of academic programs to support a cohesive and progressive learning experience.
● Evaluate and refine academic programs to reflect current educational research, best practices, and institutional goals.
● Facilitate the review and adoption of instructional materials and resources.
● Lead academic subject department heads in the integration of Grade-Level Profiles into every classroom pedagogically.
● Enhance the written curriculum by incorporating teacher reflection instruments, increasing standards transparency, supporting student scheduling, disseminating grade reports to families, and assessing student learning outcomes.
Faculty Development & Support
● Collaborate with academic leaders and department chairs to support teacher growth and instructional effectiveness.
● Design and lead high-impact professional development programs, workshops, and learning communities.
● Mentor and coach faculty in areas of curriculum design, assessment practices, and differentiated instruction.
● Collaborate with the Head of School to develop a culture of pedagogical growth through purposeful classroom observations.
● Support the hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of teaching faculty, including the completion of annual professional appraisals of each teacher, the implementation of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) when necessary, and the guidance of teachers on the development of substitute teacher notebooks, and filling unplanned permanent teaching vacancies as they occur.
● Organize “mock interview” lessons with students and lead committee observations for each interview of prospective teaching candidates.
Accreditation & Institutional Improvement
● Serve as the school’s primary liaison with Cognia and oversee all aspects of the reaccreditation process.
● Lead the development of self-study documents, organize site visits, and implement recommendations from accrediting bodies.
● Ensure continuous academic program evaluation and improvement aligned with accreditation standards.
Academic Leadership & Collaboration
● Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Division Heads, and other senior leaders to implement strategic academic initiatives.
● Lead or participate in academic committees and task forces focused on innovation, assessment, and pedagogical excellence.
● Support a culture of academic integrity, inclusion, and high expectations for students and faculty.
